The European Commission is investigating imports of bicycles from China


The European Commission has announced the beginning of a new investigation of imports of bicycles from China, which is associated with an intermediate review of anti-dumping measures, at the end of April.



Allegations EBMA


According to data published in the Official Journal of the European Union, said that the investigation was initiated on the initiative of EBMA. The complaint states: "The Chinese bicycle manufacturers have used a number of subsidies granted by the Government of the People's Republic of China."

By EBMA these subsidies consist of exemption from income and other taxes, as well as many other subsidies. EBMA argues that the scheme of subsidies linked to financial support from the Chinese government or other regional governments.

Response of Chinese industry

The European Commission launched an investigation on charges of EBMA Chinese bicycle manufacturers. According to sources in China, Chinese industry has reacted very negatively to this investigation. Chinese bicycle manufacturers are taking a passive position against subsidies allocated to the investigation in the past, their cooperation in such studies, to no avail.

Statement EBMA: «In the case where all interested persons will be denied access or do not provide necessary information within the time limits, or significantly impedes the investigation, the result may be less favorable than if the Chinese manufacturers have cooperated. Up to the non-cooperation with the manufacturers of bicycles and exports from China."
